We started in patent search. We did not stay there.
Strata IP is an AI-driven technology intelligence platform: curated, connected technology vaults that turn patents, publications and public disclosures into insight you can act on.
Why we built it
We are patent searchers. We spent our careers doing the work that patent software is supposed to make easier, and watched most of that time go into discarding results rather than understanding a field.
So we built better retrieval first. That worked — and then it stopped being the interesting problem. Because once the right records are in front of you, the question is no longer can I find it. It is what does this field look like, who is ahead, and what are they betting on. No amount of ranking answers that.
Answering it needs three things a search engine does not have: a scope worth reasoning over, the scientific record connected to the commercial one, and an analysis layer that shows its working. That is what Strata IP is now.
What we hold to
Four positions that decide how the product gets built.
- Curation beats coverage
- Anyone can index everything. A vault is scoped to one technology on purpose, because the connections inside a defined field are what make an answer trustworthy — and those connections are impossible to maintain across the whole corpus.
- An answer without its evidence is a guess
- Every statement the platform makes is tied to the records underneath it. If the vault cannot support a claim, the right output is to say so — not to produce confident prose that nobody can check.
- Science and patents belong in the same view
- A filing is the commercial end of a research programme that usually started in a lab. Reading the two separately hides the thing that matters most: whether a company is claiming ahead of the science, or catching up to it.
- The hard part is the data, not the chat box
- Name variants, co-assignment, family duplication, jurisdiction gaps. These quietly corrupt every count built on top of them. Most of our engineering goes into the layer nobody sees.
Who we are
A small team of patent searchers and engineers, building the tool we kept wishing existed while doing the work by hand.
Most patent software is built by people who have never run a search. Ours is not. That is the whole reason the product argues with you instead of handing you a spreadsheet.
